Ideally you should vet these to make sure your business goals are well-defined. Translating them to the web can sometimes be challenging. We set up a few baseline goals that would likely work in most cases. So whatever your business is, here are some good starter Goals for Google Analytics. Please customize these Google Analytics Goals based on your business. Some technical skill is required to update these to suit your needs.
Google Analytics Starter Goals
- About Page Visit
Your About Page shows some interest from those interested in what you are doing. It’s worth something. - Contact Page Visit
Sometimes people just want your contact information, address, phone number or otherwise. This is something to track. - Engaged Visit (More than 5 Minutes on the site)
Spending some quality time on your website is usually a good thing. Be careful if they couldn’t find what they were looking for either. - Form Submission
Submitting forms is a good indicator that tasks are getting completed. Track them as needed. - Loyal Visitors (Greater than 5 pages per visit)
Similar to that of an engaged visit, but this will track them across multiple visits. - Strategic Exit (Exit to Related or more focused Sites)
Sometimes it’s okay if people are leaving your site. For example corporate site to a local site or vice versa.
There are many other configurations, so create the right goal for your business, but we have found these to be extremely useful for tracking success as a starting point.
